Debut album — 2021

MINORITY

A unique concept voyage where indie-pop and art-pop songs become the theme and inspiration for the powerful instrumental creations interweaving them.

About the album

Crossing over into the popular music world, in January 2021 Aviya Kopelman released her first full-length album: MINORITY, comprising 11 songs and instrumental works.

The songs introduce a singular blend of adventurous production alongside artfully arranged contemporary composition, reminiscent of artists such as Massive Attack, Radiohead and Björk, while the lyrics thoughtfully address meaningful subjects: grief (“Grief Measure”), kindness (“Smile,” “Hidden Place”) and absence (“Restless”) — an existential look into life and death.

The instrumental tracks are impromptus for strings that interweave the songs and are freely based on them, bringing to mind string music by Philip Glass, Clint Mansell, Jonny Greenwood and George Crumb.

The album was entirely written, composed, arranged and produced by Aviya, mastered by Mandy Parnell (Brian Eno, Sigur Rós, Björk) and recorded with vocalist Ella Joy Meir.

Live

For performing MINORITY live, Aviya re-arranged the album for a smaller ensemble of voice, piano, SPD with electronics and string quartet, joining forces with vocalist Davidavi (Vidi) Dolev. Haifa-based and genre-bending, Dolev has won album-of-the-year titles around the world for his work in rock and metal, collaborating with members of Guns N' Roses, Within Temptation and others, and has performed in over 20 countries.
