I love teaching, and it takes a big place in my professional life. I feel privileged to help other musicians come closer to their dream by revealing their abilities and visions — and I feel that teaching is the way to dig into something really in depth.
Music has a lot to offer a curious and passionate scholar. While I teach various musical disciplines — from composition to orchestration, through songwriting, traditional and non-traditional harmony, arrangement, piano and more — I am always looking for the individual student's spark of interest and for their unique inner world, to make the learning process meaningful. One cannot teach the same thing to different people.
Working with students on music is not about my aesthetic world. It is about opening new horizons, asking the right questions and discovering the true intention, as well as gently pushing towards creativity when needed. We may talk about form, colour, message, beauty, breaking the rules, forming rules, emotion, language, manipulation. Some lessons have more of a master-class character; others are transatlantic and online. Some are individual, others group classes — at home, as part of an institutional curriculum, or as open lectures, which I love, about composition, new music, the creative process, and much more.
