Night Music
Quiet. Darkness. You listen to your own breathing. A dog barks and stops. A door creaks, the trees rustle. A bat beats its wings. And again nothing. Again the breathing sounds loud. That is how it is when the darkness is total, when even the moon is hard to guess behind a thick black mass of cloud. The less you see, the sharper your hearing becomes — attentive to every rustle, every sound. Night. And inside it, music. — A few months ago another Israeli piece was performed under the same title: 'Night Music' by Oded Zehavi. At first I thought to change the title of my own piece, but after hearing Zehavi's work I decided to keep it, since our two 'nights' are so different from each other. It seemed interesting to me to create a dialogue with another Israeli composer who is to me a colleague, a teacher and a friend, and it is to him that I dedicate this short piece.
